Comedy, music and shows for children in the new season at Teatro Circo Apolo in El Algar
Teatro Circo Apolo in El Algar has unveiled its new programme running through May 2025. Comedy, music, theatre and children's shows, among other offerings, will grace this Cartagena cultural venue. Tickets are already on sale at www.teatrocircoapoloelalgar.es and at the theatre box office.
The season opens this weekend with the family musical "Alicia en el país de la locura" (Alice in Wonderland-Madness), on 24 and 25 January at 8:30pm. There's also room for comedy with the stand-up show "Canalla" by Kalderas, on 25 January at 6pm.
Theatrical comedy continues on 7 February with "Gilipollas Sin Fronteras 2", a Morfeo Teatro production starring Adolfo Pastor and Santiago Nogué. Then, on 28 February, it's the turn of "Se alquila" (For Rent), a lively comedy following two characters played by TV actors and presenters Andoni Ferreño and Agustín Bravo.
March brings "El Musical de los 80s y 90s", taking audiences back through the era via the characters' lives, singing and dancing along the way — the best Spanish pop of the 80s and 90s mixed with international hits and summer anthems.
The next day, 8 March, brings "Estrelladas", a wild comedy about two washed-up Spanish actresses sharing a dressing room in a Miami theatre: Emma (Goizalde Núñez), who hasn't had a hit in years, and Tania (Ana Belén Beas), a born survivor whose biggest stage has been a brothel bar.
Cartagena-based company ENTREDÓS will also premiere its first show, "¿Demasiadas mujeres?" (Too Many Women?), on 15 March. Aladroque Teatro follows suit, performing "Locas" on 31 May. Meanwhile, the Compañía Teatro Circo Apolo will premiere "Bajo Terapia" (In Therapy), adapted and directed by Mercedes García, on 4 and 5 April.
"Querida Ágatha Christie" (Dear Agatha Christie) is Juan Carlos Rubio's latest project, exploring the lives of two utterly singular, essential authors: Agatha Christie and Benito Pérez Galdós. A dramatic comedy blending humour and heartbreak, mystery, tension and an unexpected ending, performed by Carmen Morales, Juan Meseguer and Clara Segura on 26 April.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMME
Teatro Circo Apolo will also offer several shows for the whole family, including "La isla de Maui" on 16 March, a charming musical tribute to the film Moana. On 22 March, younger audiences can enjoy "Hansel y Gretel: La batalla final" (Hansel and Gretel: The Final Battle), where technology and magic intertwine on stage in a story set in the present day, following two siblings seemingly separated by fate who reunite: Hansel, a skilled gamer, and Gretel, a fearless, intrepid police officer.
On 28 March, Cartagena-based company Faustino Producciones presents "La Bella y la Bestia: Tributo Musical" (Beauty and the Beast: Musical Tribute), letting the whole family sing along to the songs from this classic tale.
MUSICALS AND MAGIC
"Cabaret" lands at this Cartagena cultural venue on 29 March. The show transports audiences to 1931 Berlin, to the Kit Kat Club, presided over by its unsettling yet playful master of ceremonies, where the rise of Nazism sits alongside the characters' feigned everyday normality.
"Popeye, el Musical" premieres in the Región de Murcia on 14 April, courtesy of CTME and PEKEBAILA KIDS, companies led by Pedro Pomares, a well-known performer of major musicals on Madrid's Gran Vía who has previously staged hits such as "Coco el musical" (seen by over 700,000 spectators), "La Reina de Hielo" (Frozen) and "Chicago Life", among others.
Magic also features, with "Stand-up magic", a show by David Roy Burgueño, the youngest magician on Madrid's Gran Vía, winner of the 2023 Arts Award.
