The 4th edition of Festival Utópolis has arrived
Festival Utópolis returns to El Algar with a program that blends radical performances, theatre shows, and community interventions. Moreover, this edition takes an active commitment towards the urgent environmental situation of the Mar Menor.
With El Algar as its meeting point, the festival will combine shows at the Teatro Circo Apolo with free-entrance interventions in squares, streets, and neighborhood venues. The program will begin on Friday, October 2nd with Edén, a poetic circus of masks and objects. It will continue in the Teatro Circo Apolo with Paüra (Cía Lucas Escobedo), a tender and humorous circus-theatre piece that explores our relationship with fear through music and humor. The opening day will end with the Cabaret Acuático, coordinated by the Murcian company Aye-clown, a collective piece about the memories and stories of the Mar Menor, developed in the framework of Humedales en Resonancia, a project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
International dimension with a European accent:
In this edition, Utópolis strengthens its aim of linking the local context with the international theatre scene. Its program will include renowned European companies such as Theatre Jaleo and L'Anonima Teatro, from France, that will take over public space with a fun traveling intervention, La Route. The Italian-Dutch trio Canti Vaganti will also perform, closing the festival with Carnaval de la vida, an event that mixes different European performative traditions.
Commitment to emerging talent:
The festival will also host the second edition of 'El Semillero de Utópolis'. This platform for new creators began as an open call, offering a crucial space for emerging talent from the Murcia Región. The selected shows will be presented on Saturday, October 3rd starting at 10:30 p.m. at the venue of the Asociación de Vecinos (AVV).
